The RMA Special Populations Department has special services available to eligible young adults identified with a disability. Federal and state laws require local education agencies (LEAs), which include public school districts and charter schools, to maintain a CHILD FIND system to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities residing within their jurisdictions who need special education and related services.
CHILD FIND is an important first step to finding children with disabilities and getting them the support and services they require to be successful in school.
A student identified through CHILD FIND is not automatically guaranteed services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). First, a full and individual initial evaluation (FIIE) of the child must be conducted and is a critical component when determining the eligibility and needs of the child.
Our CHILD FIND efforts include advertising the availability of services through social media, public notices, and staff training.
